***Note: I do my own health examinations and my own 5 way vaccines, worming and giving Marquis (a coccidia preventative). I am by no means a certified veterinarian nor do I claim to be but I am very knowledgeable on how to examine a puppy for eye / ear problems, hernias, patella problems (bad knees), skin problems, temperament issues, and some heart murmurs. I do have the new owner to take the puppy to his/her own veterinarian within 3 business days for a certified veterinarian examination.
I also only use a veterinarian as needed.
Be cautious and get references for the veterinarian. Make sure that you are 100% happy with what you find out and with how the veterinarian handles his/her clients. It's just like finding your new born child his/her pediatric doctor for the first time. Simply make sure you are happy and comfortable with him/her before scheduling the appointment for the first time.

NEED HELP FINDING A NUTRITIONAL DIET FOR YOUR NEW PUPPY?
We highly recommend and use Purina Pro Plan Selects Puppy Formula (Turkey and Barley).
This is an excellent puppy food and recommended by most veterinarians. This brand of puppy food can be purchased thru some veterinarian offices and thru most high end pet supply stores such as PetSmart or Petco.
NEED HELP HOUSETRAINING / CRATE TRAINING?
TRY READING THESE SITES.
I use an exercise pen (play pen) for house training. I find that the puppy doesn't stress and house training goes just as fast with this method as it does with using a crate. I also use a small ceramic bowl or small feeder and a 32 oz. water bottle (the lick kind). This is a much cleaner method and no chance of running out of food while no one is home. The exercise pen comes in a variety of heights and is adjustable to a large variety of sizes...also it is for indoor / outdoor use, folds down to a flat size which stores easily in a closet or under the bed. You can purchase an exercise play pen at your local PetSmart or Petco pet supply outlets. If you choose the traditional method of crate training, I recommend the wire crates with the pull out pans. This allows the puppy to maintain a constant temperature and for him / her to see what is going on around them.

NEED HELP WITH BATHING DECISIONS?
Here are a couple of items that I am currently using and highly recommend.
Shampoos: (Double K) Groomer's Edge Alpha White Shampoo.
(Double K ) Groomer's Edge GrimeNator.
(Double K) Groomer's Edge Emerald Black Shampoo.
(Double K) Groomer's Edge Hypo Plus Shampoo.
# 1 Systems Professional Formula Whitening Shampoo.
Flea Control Shampoos: Adam's Flea & Tick Shampoo.
Conditioners: (Double K) Groomer's Edge Re-Fur-Bish Conditioner.
These are the best shampoos that I have come across in a long time that actually works as good as it says it does. These products can be ordered at www.petedge.com
The link above is directly to the Double K Groomer's Edge products. I only recommend bathing a puppy / dog every 7-10 days. If you need to bathe earlier than that you can purchase a waterless shampoo spray from your local WalMart, PetSmart or Petco- that will work just as good as bathing, but won't dry out your pets skin.
HOME REMEDIES THAT REALLY WORK!
Skunk Remedy:
If you pet gets sprayed by a skunk, don't freak. Just use these ingredients to
kill that funky smell.
1 part Baking soda.
1 part Peroxide.
1 part Ivory dish detergent.
Mix these ingredients to make a shampoo type paste (not too thick or too thin).
Cover your pet from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
Rinse. Repeat as needed.
Bad breath, clean mouth:
Place 1 (one) drop of Tea Tree Oil in the side of your pets mouth.
Caution- Your pet WILL NOT like it!!! This disinfects the pets’ mouth, just like using Listerine.
Need to kill fleas and ticks, but don't want to use pesticides?
Use this remedy and you won't have too.
Use Ivory, Dawn, Joy dish detergents like a shampoo.
Wet your pet thoroughly from tip of nose to tip of tail. Lather pet with Ivory, Dawn
or Joy detergent (don't hesitate to make the lather thick). Let pet stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat as needed.
If your pet experiences dry skin here is a home remedy that will really help.
Use Murphy's Oil Soap (wood soap) as a shampoo a couple times the first week for a pet that is experiencing chronic dry skin and adjust as necessary from that point on. This method will put oils back into your pets coat without causing further problems. Murphy's is safe to use on a regular basis.
